Have this information ready:

  • Type and description of animal including any features or marks
  • If it was a pet, whether it wore a collar, tags, and where it lives
  • How the bite occurred
  • Whether the animal had been seen in the area before and what direction it was traveling

Rabies: What to do

  • If a wild animal is on your property, let it wander away
  • Bring children and pets indoors and alert neighbors who are outside
  • You may contact a Nuisance Wildlife Control Agent to remove the animal if a wild animal gets into a fight with your pet
  • Do not handle your pet with bare hands-USE GLOVES
  • Do not let children touch pet
  • Call immediately for help so wild animal can be captured for testing

If a person gets bitten

  • Wash wound with lots of soap and running water
  • Seek medical attention
  • Call immediately for help so animal can be captured for testing
  • Be sure all pets have current rabies vaccination
